Power Systems
Power in an unlimited VHF contest rover is always a challenge, the car runs 100% of the time to charge the batteries. When I key up, There is a pull of 77 AMP at 13.8 volts.
Power is off the house battery with a breaker and in-line fuse via 4 gauge welding wire to the rear of the vehicle where it has a junction box to convert the 4 gauged to two 6 gauged wires terminated in Anderson Power-Poles rated for 75 AMPS, one lead goes to the radio box and the other to the Rover Batteries.
The rover batteries are two AGM 100+ AHr batteries and a set of super capacitors to help take the power hit on initial key-up
When you key one radio you key up all the high power amplifiers in order to protect the pre-amps on the amps.
